Questions About
Tuning In / Listening To Malisson Radio
| Am I too young / too old to listen to Malisson Radio? |
While we attempt to program a station and web site that is fun for all ages, we do advise against listening if you are offended by minor language or suggestive themes similar to those presented in a PG-13 movie or TV-14 television program.
In addition, we do not allow children under the age of 13 to participate in any interactive portions of the site, such as (but not limited to) IM, chat, or e-mail. Parents and legal guardians may contact us to negotiate special permissions for their child. |
| Is Malisson Radio off the air right now? |
Yes, we are currently on hiatus until September 17, 2010 in order to improve the quality of your listening experience! Please check back on that date to tune in to the new and improved Malisson Radio!
On rare occasions, our broadcast system will shut down temporarily for maintenance or due to a power failure. We constantly update our Twitter with details as they become available; please call (412) 204-6256 immediately if our station is not broadcasting and there is no mention of a temporary outage on our Twitter account. |
| What
software do I need to listen on my computer? |
Using the links in
iTunes Radio's "Eclectic" genre is the easiest way to listen. But thanks to SWCast, your computer's default media player
should be able to connect when you follow
the instructions provided on our tune-in page.
If you need help, contact us for further troubleshooting support. |
| How fast should my
computer / Internet connectionbe? |
You must have a
high-speed Internet
connection (DSL or better) in order to listen without
interruptions. Most modern computers have the necessary specifications to run an audio stream! |
| Can I skip the song
that's playing, like on
Pandora and Last.FM? |
No,
Malisson Radio is formatted
like a real radio station,
not an online music
playlist. Our music lineup is hand-picked by a professional music director and programmed by live DJs and sophisticated radio automation equipment. The
Malisson Radio experience is
more like a traditional
AM/FM or satellite radio
station than the web sites
that are labeled as
"Internet Radio" today! |
| Can I listen on my iPod
/ portable media player? |
Most
portable listening devices are not equipped with an Internet connection,
so you will not be able to hear our live feed. However, some newer models
(such as the iPod touch) have WiFi technology and the ability to download Internet radio applications. For more information, contact your device's manufacturer.
We also have a podcast for your offline listening pleasure! |
| Can I listen on my cell
phone? / Do you have a Droid / iPhone app? |
We are still looking into the possibility of developing applications to make listening to Malisson Radio on your Android, iPhone, Blackberry, Palm, or Windows Mobile smartphone much easier!
In the meantime, most "smartphones" (cell phones with a high speed Internet connections) have the option of downloading an application that will allow you to browse the ShoutCast Directory, and thus allow you to listen to any ShoutCast radio station on the go, including Malisson Radio. BUT BE CAREFUL! Unless you have a plan that includes unlimited high-speed network access, your bill will skyrocket! Since we're not responsible for any fees incurred while listening to our station or visiting this site, you should check with your service provider prior to tuning in! |
| Can I listen in my car
(AM/FM/Satellite radio tuner)? |
Unfortunately, Malisson Radio does not have an
official over-the-air broadcast at this time. However, if you can tune
in on your cell phone (see above), you're welcome to plug a cassette adapter or FM transmitter into the headphone jack to listen on your car stereo. |
| Why am I asked to
download a player I already
have? |
Make sure you click on the image representing your player of choice, not its written name! SWCast uses the text links to allow customers to download the software. |
| Why not get rid of the
SWCast page? It's confusing! |
Our licensing company
requires that we use their
page for all tune-in links except those in the iTunes and ShoutCast directories. We do not have any plans to change music licensing providers at this time. |

Questions About Specific
Shows
When can I hear that show with Jonny Paula, Jory Caron, and Riley McIlwain?
-OR-
When is the Microwave Show on? |
Jonny Paula also hosts "The Roadhouse," a classic show from the WECB archives. The show airs in reruns on Sunday nights at 7PM Eastern. Jory and Riley co-hosted a select few episodes.
"Live Time With Jon & Jory" is no longer part of the Malisson Radio lineup and has no current plans to return at this time. |
Who decides what shows / DJs
will air & when?
-OR-
How do I get a
show on Malisson Radio? |
Our panel of experienced DJs decide which shows make it to the air.
While there's no room for co-hosts on any existing shows at this time, we are currently looking for volunteer DJs to create their own shows and host them on Malisson Radio. If you would like to
audition for your own time
slot, please contact us. |
I missed my favorite
show show! How can I hear
it? |
Tune in every Wednesday night at 7PM Eastern! "Classicana" is known for airing reruns of Malisson Radio programming - and your favorite show could be on the schedule this week! Send an e-mail to requests@malissonradio.com if you want a certain show to air! |
| Where can I download the recording of a show that I missed (or really liked)? |
Due to the copyrighted material in our programs, we are
unable to provide recordings of full episodes. You can either catch the show on "Classicana" (see above) or subscribe to our Podcast! |
Why wasn't (this show) on this week?
-OR-
Why was this week's episode of (this show) a rerun? |
Technical difficulties sometimes prevent a program from airing at its regularly scheduled time. Some DJs also opt to take vacation or personal time on occasion. We do our best to fill in these time slots with classic episodes or "Best Of" specials whenever possible. |
| Why doesn't (this show)
air anymore? |
We sometimes decide to remove shows from our lineup due to technical issues, scheduling conflicts, or
because they fall below our rigorous quality standards. In some cases, DJs choose to cancel their shows for personal reasons. Contact us if
you have a genuine concern about the cancelation of a show! |

Questions About
Malisson Radio Programming
| How do I make a
request? |
You can Contact
Us 24 hours a day! If you would like
your request played during a certain show,
please click here to contact the appropriate DJ! |
| When will my
request be played? |
Unfortunately, DMCA Millennium Copyright Act provisions forbid us from playing a song
at a listener-requested time, and we're not allowed to tell any
listener what time a given song will play.
Please remember that we are not always able to play your requests, so please be patient and we will get to it as soon as we can! |
| What kinds of music do
you play? |
We have over 4,000 songs
in rotation, each from a
different genre and era!
Almost all of our songs are
upbeat, and we provide
specialty shows all week
long! If there's a certain song you'd like us to play on Malisson
Radio or a certain themed
show that you'd like us to
carry, please Contact Us! |
Is the station
family-friendly?
-OR-
What should I do if I hear questionable material on Malisson Radio? |
While we do our best to
maintain a pleasurable
listening experience, some of our live DJs choose to air a limited amount of material that may not be appropriate for some audiences. We advise against listening if you are offended by minor language or suggestive themes similar to those presented in a PG-13 movie or TV-14 television program.
If one of our DJs fails to notify you of upcoming questionable material, or if questionable material airs during times when a live DJ is not present, please Contact Us with the exact date and time of the incident so that we can rectify it. |
| What exactly is a "Malisson
Radio Edit?" How does it
differ from a regular "Radio
Edit?" |
Songs labeled "Radio Edit" or "Single
Edit" have been altered by the record label to be radio-friendly, which involves editing for time or content.
When a song is not available in a radio-friendly format,
our DJs will professionally edit the original song to remove explicit lyrics or spoken
dialogue, or to fit in a shorter time slot. These are known as "Malisson Radio Edits" and are labeled as such on the stream. |
| Why am I seeing the word
"EXPLICIT" along with a song or show title? |
Songs and shows marked
[EXPLICIT] are known to have
language that may not be appropriate for all audiences,
so listener discretion is
advised. |

Questions About Malisson Radio Employment,
Advertising, And Revenue
| Does Malisson
Radio generate revenue? |
Malisson Radio is individually owned and operated by a University of Pittsburgh student who pays all expenses out-of-pocket. While donations in small denominations are welcomed and graciously accepted, all funds
(including AdSense revenue) go directly towards licensing, hosting and music download costs. |
| Will Malisson Radio run my ad? |
We can only run in-site ads that are
hosted by Google AdSense, and we are not
able to run ads on the air.
However, we will consider airing and posting your Public Service Announcement
(PSA) at no charge. Please contact us for more information. |
| Is Malisson Radio currently hiring? |
Malisson Radio is currently looking for volunteer disc jockeys to host daily or weekly programming from
their home studios! Shows can be live or recorded but must be

Random Questions About
Malisson Radio
| Is this station owned by Jon, Jory, and Riley from "Is It A Good Idea To Microwave This?" |
No, but Jon does host a radio show on Sunday nights called "The Roadhouse," which airs in reruns from the WECB archives! |
| How can I contact
Malisson Radio? |
All of our contact information is on the Contact
Us Page. |
| How did the station get
started? |
An in-depth article about the history of Malisson Radio has been posted on the "About Us" page of our site. If you have further questions that are not answered on that page, please contact us. |
| What does "Malisson"
mean? |
It's a combination of
the last names of
co-founders CJ Malm and
Andrea Morrison. The double-"S" is just to help with pronuncation. |
| Why the change from "Best Stream In The 'Burgh" to "Keepin' It Upbeat?" |
While the station still broadcasts out of Pittsburgh, PA, we wanted a tagline that better referenced our worldwide reach and up-tempo music selection! |
| How did the station get
listed in the iTunes
Directory? |
The full details about Malisson Radio's addition to the iTunes Radio directory are written on a bit of parchment, hidden away in a cave deep in the Amazon rainforest and guarded by a regime of heavily-armed lawn gnomes. Attempts to recover the contents of this parchment will result in perils beyond the wildest imagination of any mortal being on this planet. |
| Are all of the DJs from Pittsburgh? |
No, every DJ broadcasts from their hometown in North America. To name a few, we have DJs from Boston, Chicago, California, Missouri, and even Vancouver, Canada! |
| Are the staff members
friends in "real life"? |
While some of the
DJs have met face-to-face,
most of them chat
regularly online or on the
phone. Andrea and CJ, the
co-founders, were boyfriend and girlfriend before Malisson
Radio even existed! |
