Malisson Radio began as a privately-owned Internet radio station called Radio CJ, which officially began broadcasting at 9:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time on Monday, October 1, 2007 with 50 listener slots and a collection of just over 200 tracks in rotation. The station premiered with 10 hours of scheduled live programming every week, the first of which aired on October 2nd. But due to the lack of a dedicated broadcast server, the station was forced to shut down for anywhere from 2 to 8 hours every day.

On November 11, 2007, Radio CJ merged with Pittsburgh-based Malisson Entertainment and was renamed Malisson Radio. While the rotational tracks and technical specifications of the station remained the same, Malisson Radio received overhauls on their web site and station imaging overhauls.

The station was forced to shut down for two months in early 2008 for financial reasons. Its next broadcast would be in March, 2008, from a rented broadcast server and upgraded automation software. This was the first time that Malisson Radio would broadcast on a 24-hour schedule, and the logo you see today was designed shortly after. That summer, station manager Carl Malm updated and diversified the station's music catalog, and purchased a dedicated broadcasting PC to alleviate rental costs.

Malisson Radio was added to the iTunes Radio directory in November, 2008 under the Pop and Eclectic genres. (It was removed from the Pop genre in late 2009.) The station was scheduled to join the FM dial on a low-power transmitter at the University of Pittsburgh in early 2009, but experienced technical difficulties and was forced to put these plans on hold.
